have a story about your body?

please consider SHARING IT.

how will the stories be used?

The aim of this project is to collect as many body image stories as possible to help build something creative to be shared with the world.  If you choose to submit a story, you can do so anonymously, and you can determine whether the story will be kept private or shared publicly.

how should my story be structured?

It’s your story, so the structure, length, and content are entirely up to you!  If you need some help getting started, you might find one or more of these prompts helpful:

– I’ve never felt more comfortable/uncomfortable in my body than the time…
– I first learned to trust/mistrust my body when…
– I wish I could tell my body…
– If my body could speak, I think it would tell me…
– What no one seems to understand about my body is…
– When I think about how my body (and/or the way I feel about it) has changed over time…
– When it comes to my body, what I hope for myself is…

Again, please feel free to use (or ignore) any of these prompts and create your own.
Your own genuine perspective is what matters in this project.

whose stories are you after?

As many people’s as possible!  For many good reasons, body image is not something most people talk about openly (or if we do, we tend to talk about our bodies in only a few narrow ways).  This project aims to change that by collecting as large and diverse a group of stories as possible.

Stories that historically have been underrepresented in the body image world include those that touch on:

body image and gender identity
body image and race/ethnicity

body image and sexual orientation
body image and disability
body image and illness
body image and mental health
body image and dating, marriage, and divorce

body image and infertility, pregnancy, and miscarriage
body image and the workplace

body image and family
